Hacienda’s enriched Science Program provides our K-5 students with a wide range of engaging, hands-on opportunities to explore the world. Dedicated science resource teachers engage students in specialized science instruction in the science laboratory and our amazing one-acre Outdoor Classroom, featuring native plant ecosystems as well as a running stream and pond system.

Students learn about the environment through weekly experiments, outdoor explorations, and investigations of the dozens of live animals housed in the science lab. Homeroom teachers reinforce and extend science learning through a variety of activities in their classrooms. Volunteer garden parents dig in with kids to plant, nurture and harvest vegetables and flowers in our Sprouts class gardening program.

All Hacienda students learn how to be good stewards of the natural environment through a kid-powered, school-wide recycling and composting program. Also, students explore clean sources of alternative energy such as solar power and hydrogen fuel cells.

Special field trips to local sites expand students’ environmental education. And our annual Star Party is a stellar way for students’ eyes and minds to reach far out across space and time.
