HIPS Membership Drive Continues…

Next week we will be entering our second week of the HIPS Membership Drive & Fundraiser!  Each year HIPS raises money through the Membership Drive to fund the amazing programs we have at Hacienda.  Every student at Hacienda benefits from this fundraiser, so we hope every family can participate.  This is our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year, so please consider giving as generously as you can.  Of course, any and all donations are greatly appreciated!

Students are in a contest to see which classes have the highest levels of participation.  What do they get?  All classes that reach 75% participation will earn a popsicle party, and the class with the highest level of participation will earn a popsicle party AND a pizza party!!

Look for the yellow Membership Forms to continue coming home as reminders to “Join HIPS” in raising money to keep our programs active.  Drive ends Friday, September 16. Thank you for your support.

Art Vistas Orientation

If you signed up to volunteer with Art Vistas, then please join us in the FDR (Faculty Dining Room) Friday, 9/9 @9:00 a.m. for a short bullet point orientation.  We will also look over your first lesson and show you where to pick up supplies during the year.  This orientation is required for all docents because we have made some changes to the program.  The location of the supplies has also changed.  Helpers are encouraged to come, but it’s entirely optional.  Please make sure to turn in the “Volunteer Packet” to the office ASAP if you have not done so already.  Thank you!!  We are looking forward to seeing you all!  🙂

Art Vistas needs A.V. Coordinators to “learn the ropes” of the program this year so we can keep it up and running for next year.  Since the current leaders will be graduating out, it is extremely important to fill these positions.  This is an amazing Art History program, so don’t let it slip away!  If you are interested please contact Penny Sisley @psisley@sbcglobal.net or Susan Hoelzer @ susanhoelzer@hotmail.com.  Thank you!

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:

Videographer for Music Performances
The music teachers are looking for a parent volunteer to edit video of one music performance and make one master DVD. Perhaps you would be willing to volunteer for one performance this year? Please contact Mrs. Thompson at dthompson@sjusd.org or Ms. Ulrich at mulrich@sjusd.org if you have questions about what’s involved.  Thank you!

Hacienda’s Traffic Safety Committee Needs YOU
• We currently have 2 parents (& 1 teacher for a few days a week) helping in the Drop Off Zone in the mornings greeting students and helping them to exit cars
• We would like to have 2-3 parents a day help out, even if you can only help 1, 2, 3 times a week/month
• Easy training – placement of traffic signs/cones, guiding cars
• Easy to do and both the parents & students appreciate it.
• Time needed: 8:25-9:00am, even if you can only help for 15-20 minutes,
• Although mornings are the critical time, if you can help in the afternoon – we can use your help too.
• And PLEASE remember to follow the Drop Off rules, we are all volunteers but the safety of all students and staff are our priority
Calling all PESTS!!!
We are actively looking for people who would like to help spoil our teachers and Hacienda staff members. PEST stands for “Parents Encouraging Superior Teachers and Staff.” We are looking for secret pals for each and every one of our staff members. Being a PEST does not have to be expensive, just thoughtful. Ideas include a simple note dropped in their mailbox, a treat or homemade cookies, or a flower from your garden!!! This is a fun and easy way to volunteer for our school. If you are interested in becoming a PEST or would like more information, please contact Larissa Ramos at mamiramos71@yahoo.com.

SPROUTS

The “Sprouts” Gardening program enables our Hacienda students to be experts on the life-cycle of plant food sources and connect science concepts learned in the classroom to the garden.  Parent volunteers deliver lessons designed by the science team and assist in preparing fresh produce for our students to taste.

We seek docents and helpers to assist with your child’s classroom for 6 lessons during the year. Morning waterers are also needed to begin watering once a week in October through May! Please sign up with your classroom teacher at Back to School Night, or you can find sign-up sheets in the Faculty Dining Room in the HIPS filing bin.

Sprouts Orientation and training for lesson one will be the week of September 12th!  We look forward to seeing you all in the gardens!!

GIRLS ON THE RUN

Would you like to join us as we inspire girls to unlock their limitless potential? We are currently looking for new coaches because last year’s coaches, unfortunately, are unable to return. We are so thankful for the time and energy they devoted to the team! However, if we cannot find three new coaches, the GOTR program at Hacienda will be cancelled for the 2017 season.  Coaches can be women OR men over the age of 18 and need not be parents of girls on the team; coaches can be grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors or even nannies/babysitters, anyone who wants to inspire young girls to lead confident and healthy lives! If you would like to volunteer as a coach, please email Diana Wilson at HIPSVPVolunteer@gmail.com
Our Girls on the Run Information Night is next Monday, August 29, at the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos at 6:30 pm. If you are able to join us, please RSVP here: https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/2017-Season-Information-Night-RSVP-Form (RSVPs are required).
